Strike called off at Hyundai Motor in India

The settlement was reached at a tri-partite meeting, which lasted for more than five hours, with participation of the Hyundai Motor India Employees Union (HMIEU), management and the Labour Commissioner at Sriperumbudur.

The terms of the settlement are as follows:

• Striking workers would report for work from 9 November morning;
• No work no pay principle for the ten day strike period;
• The management agreed to withdraw the suspension of 20 workers during this strike. However, five of them will face disciplinary proceedings and final decision will be taken after the tripartite conciliation meeting in the presence of the Joint Commissioner of Labour, Chennai;
• Apart from these five workers no victimization or disciplinary actions will be applied against workers who participated in the strike;
• HMIEU agreed to accept the ID Act 1947, sec18 (1) wage settlement proposed by the management.

In accordance with the agreement striking workers restarted work on the 9 November morning shift.

HMIEU had been on strike since 30 October 2012, management suspended 20 workers during the strike period, many rounds of negotiations took place including a meeting with the Labour Minister of Tamil Nadu and the HMIEU union led by its Honorary President Soundararajan, who is also a member of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly.
